A Few Missing Shingles Shouldn't Mean A New Roof

Shingle roof repair is often all a South Florida shingle roof needs after a windy storm or a few years of heat: a handful of new shingles, resealed tabs, or rebuilt flashing at a wall or valley. Fixed early, it keeps water away from the underlayment and the deck.

We repair 3-tab and architectural shingle roofs on homes across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach, matched as closely as possible to your existing shingles. Thinking about a new shingle roof instead? See our asphalt shingle roofing page.

Missing, Lifted, Or Leaking Shingles?

Here's what we see most on South Florida shingle roofs, what usually causes it, and how we fix it.

Missing or blown-off shingles

Usual cause
Wind caught a shingle whose adhesive strip had weakened or that was nailed too high
Our fix
Install matching shingles, nailed and sealed to hold in high wind

Shingles lifting or flapping

Usual cause
The adhesive strip under the tab has let go, often after years of heat
Our fix
Re-seal the tabs and replace any that have creased or torn

Bumps or raised nail heads

Usual cause
Nail pops: nails backing out as the deck expands and contracts
Our fix
Re-nail into solid wood, seal the old holes, and replace damaged shingles

Bare spots or granules in the gutters

Usual cause
Granule loss from age, UV, or storm impact
Our fix
Replace the worn shingles, or advise you plainly if the whole roof is wearing out

Cracked or curling shingles

Usual cause
Age and heat drying out the asphalt
Our fix
Replace the damaged shingles and check the underlayment beneath them

Leaks at walls, valleys, or pipes

Usual cause
Failed step flashing, a worn valley, or a cracked pipe boot
Our fix
Rebuild the flashing or valley and install a new boot, woven into the shingles

Damaged ridge cap

Usual cause
The ridge takes the strongest wind and the most sun
Our fix
Replace the ridge cap shingles and check the ridge vent underneath

Shingle Repairs That Blend In

A patch that doesn't match is the most common complaint about shingle repairs. Here's how we keep yours from standing out:

  • We identify the brand, product line, and color before we order
  • If a shingle is discontinued, we find the closest profile and color, and can move shingles from a less visible area to the repair
  • New shingles look a little darker at first and blend in as they weather. We tell you upfront if a repair will stand out
By Shingle Type

3-Tab & Architectural Shingle Repair

Most South Florida shingle roofs are one of these two. Each one fails, and is repaired, a little differently.

  • 3-tab shingles

A flat, single-layer shingle with cut-out tabs. The tabs tear and lift more easily in wind, but individual shingles are simple to replace.

  • Architectural shingles

Thicker, laminated shingles with a dimensional look. They hold up better in wind, but their blended colors take more care to match.

Hurricane Country

Why Shingles Blow Off In South Florida Wind

Shingle roofs don't usually fail all at once. They fail one shingle at a time, and it almost always starts the same way.

  • The adhesive strip weakens

Each shingle is glued to the one below by a strip that softens and lets go after years of Florida heat.

  • Nails in the wrong place

Shingles nailed too high, or with too few nails, are the first to peel off in a storm.

  • One shingle starts a chain

Once a shingle is gone, wind gets under the next row. That's why a small repair after a storm matters.

How We Work

How We Repair A Shingle Roof

  1. 1

    Inspect the whole roof

We check every slope, not just the damaged spot, for lifted tabs, nail pops, and worn flashing nearby.

  2. 2

    Match before we start

We identify your shingle and order the closest match, so the repair is done in one visit when possible.

  3. 3

    Repair to code

Shingles are nailed and sealed to Florida Building Code wind requirements, with new underlayment where it's damaged.

  4. 4

    Check and clean up

We check the repair, photograph it for your records, and sweep the property for nails.

Pricing

Shingle Roof Repair Cost In South Florida

Most shingle repairs are small, but the price rises when water has reached what's underneath. The biggest factors are:

  • How many shingles are missing or damaged
  • Whether the underlayment or deck underneath is damaged
  • Flashing, valley, pipe boot, or ridge cap work
  • Finding a match for an older or discontinued shingle
  • Roof height, pitch, and number of stories

Shingle Roof Repair: Most repairs range $500–$1,500+ depending on the extent of damage.

Final pricing is determined after a free on-site inspection. Actual cost depends on roof size, material, extent of damage, and other job-specific factors.

Repair or replace?

A few bad shingles are a repair. These signs usually mean the whole roof is wearing out:

  • Curling, cracking, or bare spots across most of the roof
  • Heavy granule loss everywhere, not just in one area
  • The roof is around 20 years old and leaking in more than one place

When we spot them, your estimate includes the price of a new roof installation too, so you can weigh both options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our roofing services? Find answers to the most common questions below, or reach out to our team directly.

Ask Us Anything
How Much Does Shingle Roof Repair Cost In South Florida?

Most repairs range $500–$1,500+ depending on the extent of damage. Replacing a handful of missing shingles costs far less than rebuilding a valley or repairing the deck underneath. Final pricing is determined after a free on-site inspection. Actual cost depends on roof size, material, extent of damage, and other job-specific factors.

Can You Replace Just A Few Shingles?

Yes. Missing or damaged shingles can be replaced on their own, without replacing the roof, as long as the shingles around them are still in good condition and a reasonable match is available.

Will New Shingles Match My Roof?

We match the brand, profile, and color as closely as possible. New shingles usually look slightly darker at first and blend in as they weather. If your shingle is discontinued, we find the closest match and can move shingles from a less visible area to the repair.

Why Do Shingles Blow Off In South Florida?

Most shingles that blow off had a weakened adhesive strip or were nailed in the wrong place. Once one is gone, wind gets under the next row, so it's worth repairing even a few missing shingles quickly.

Are Missing Shingles An Emergency?

A few missing shingles usually aren't an emergency, but they should be repaired within days, before the next rain reaches the underlayment. If water is already coming in, call for emergency roof repair.

Are Shingle Granules In My Gutters A Problem?

A few granules are normal, especially on a newer roof. Large amounts, or bare spots on the shingles, mean the shingles are wearing out. In one area it's a repair; across the whole roof it usually means replacement is getting close.

Does Insurance Cover Wind-Damaged Shingles?

If a hurricane or windstorm tore the shingles off, your homeowners policy may pay for the repair. Shingles that simply wore out with age typically aren't included. Our storm damage repair team photographs the damage for your adjuster.

Do You Warranty Shingle Roof Repairs?

Yes. Our workmanship warranty covers every shingle repair we do, and you get the terms in writing before we start.
